enterprise deals closed that had been blocked on SSO

The challenge

The company’s customer dashboard had grown over six years on an ageing jQuery and PHP codebase. Pages showing attendance and payroll data took eight to twelve seconds to load for larger customers, and support tickets about slowness were rising. Enterprise prospects kept asking for SSO and role-based access, which the old system could not support. The internal admin was so slow that the customer success team kept spreadsheets alongside it.

Built with

  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • Figma
  • Auth0

What we did

  1. Interviewed HR admins at eight customer companies and the internal success team to find the workflows that mattered most.
  2. Designed a new dashboard and admin in Figma with a shared component library, tested with customers before development started.
  3. Rebuilt the front end in Next.js against new, paginated Node.js APIs, migrating module by module so customers were never moved all at once.
  4. Added SAML and Google single sign-on, granular roles and audit logs to meet enterprise security reviews.
They rebuilt the product while our customers were using it and nobody had a bad day. SSO alone took a recurring objection out of our sales calls.
